Introduction to Radio


Notes:
  • 90%  of adults still tune into radio stations on a weekly basis.
  • Live radio 71%, 16-24 29%.
  • Personal digital audio 26%, streaming services 25%.
  • 2015 40%+ of all reported radio listening was via a digital device.
  • A second national DAB can be transmitted was switched on in March 2016 which brings 15 unique radio services.
Radio 1 is different because it helps it to introduce new music such as K-pop (BTS).

  • Social media; twitter, internet helps to keep it alive. The webcam on BBC radio 1 helps keep the 16-24 target audience.
  • Must inform, entertain and educate.
  • Rajar- how they control market and audiences.
  • OFCOM- regulation board.
